Dear Music Education Community,
I write to you with exciting news of a brand new free DEY-approved summer course that we have designed at MIC entitled: Inclusive Music Education: Exploring Assistive and Digital Technologies for Primary and Post-Primary Schools
This course is designed to enable primary, special education and/or post-primary teachers to engage in inclusive music pedagogies and digital technologies with a view to adapting them for use in their own classrooms to strengthen learner agency and access.
Scheduled on-campus at MIC from Wednesday 1st July - Tuesday 7th July 2026 (9.30am - 2pm), the course will:
Engage teachers in a practical, meaningful experience using inclusive music pedagogies for inclusive music-making classroom practices, that includes diverse learners and resources to promote equity, inclusion and diversity
Evaluate low-threshold adaptive musical instruments and digital music technologies by exploring inclusive music-making approaches that can be replicated in classrooms
Equip teachers with the knowledge and skills required to plan across the curriculum (arts education, languages, literacy, STEAM, SESE, SPHE) and across school contexts, to promote pupil engagement and learning
Course Tutors Gwen Moore, Avril McLoughlin, Edmond Gubbins and June Robbins bring a diverse range of expertise and experience from primary, post-primary and ITE contexts in informal/non-formal music learning, Irish traditional music and inclusive special education.
The summer course is free of charge and will include tea/coffee and snacks. However, places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis!
