Purposeful Exam Preparation: Navigating Music Exam Boards with Purpose: Understanding Requirements and Managing Expectations
Date: 25th June 2026
Time: 11:30-1:00pm
This first online workshop offers a clear and practical overview of UK and Irish-based music exam board requirements, with a strong focus on how teachers can support meaningful musicianship beyond the exam itself.
Grounded in the Common Approach methodology from Music Mark (n.d.), the session will explore how to make informed, student-centred decisions when selecting exam boards—balancing individual goals, learning needs, and the expectations of different systems. Teachers will also reflect on how to manage expectations effectively across all stakeholders, including examiners, students, parents, and teachers.
Designed to be both informative and thought-provoking, this session encourages a more purposeful, holistic approach to exam preparation within vocal and instrumental teaching.
We welcome all practitioners to this workshop, and the event is free to all who are interested. We look forward to meeting you and working with you all online. Please click on the following sign-up sheet to sign up for this exciting workshop!
