Honorary Life Membership Award 2018 – Professor Mícheál Ó’Sullibheáin
At the Annual Conference of SMEI in the Royal Irish Academy of Music on November 2nd 2018 , Mícheál was granted Honorary Life Membership by the Society. SMEI was deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Professor Mícheál Ó Súillebháin on November 7th 2018.
Shannon Burns (Irish World Academy of Music and Dance), accepts the Honorary Life Membership of the Society for Music Education in Ireland, on behalf of Prof. Mícheál Ó’Suilleabháin. The award is presented by Lorraine O’Connell, Chair of SMEI.

Honorary Life Membership Award, 2015 – Colm Ó Cléirigh
The Society of Music Education in Ireland were delighted to award Colm Ó Cléirigh Honorary Life Membership of SMEI at a special reception at the SMEI Annual Conference, Saturday 7th November 2015.
Honorary Life Membership Award, 2014 -Dr Ita Beausang
Dr Beausang is Lecturer Emeritus in Musicology at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. Her main research interests are concentrated on contextual studies of music in Ireland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. She is active in research in the areas of music education, piano pedagogy, music therapy and music criticism, and has acted as supervisor for a wide range of postgraduate research projects. She was research assistant to Professor Aloys Fleischmann for his contribution to A New History of Ireland vol. 6 (OUP, 1966), and was elected an honorary life member of the Society for Musicology in Ireland. She is Advisory Editor for The Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland and is currently engaged in research on the life and works of the Irish composer, Ina Boyle.
